Melody Mazalin was first introduced to the tiki when she was a mere 6 months old. Her wild eyes gazed up at the illustrious tiki figure outside the International market place in Honolulu, Hawaii. Her fascination has grown since. Having graduated and earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the Alberta College of Art and Design in Calgary, AB, she moved to Vancouver, BC. Melody paints, sculpts, reads, and collects anything tiki that comes within her grasp.
Polynesian pop culture and kitsch are the main themes of Melody’s work. Her take on the Tiki consists of retro figures mixed with contemporary color compositions. Although her work is mostly fueled by a fascination with 50’s culture, she aims to create a fusion with modern art.
